Thomas Seele

Thomas Seele was born in Dublin and educated at Trinity College, where he was elected Fellow in 1634.¹ Born in the shadow of Christchurch Cathedral where his father was verger and sexton, he remained staunchly anglican all his life.² He was a royalist, and although he had to lie low during the commonwealth, he celebrated the anglican liturgy in Dublin whenever conditions permitted.³  He was appointed Provost in 1661, and held the post until his death.  In the last nine years of his life he was also Dean of St Patrick's Cathedral. Seele tightened discipline among the students and brought more order and colour into the Chapel services by appointing regular preachers and a College organist.⁴
