Questions about the existence and nature of God have long been part of philosophy. Most of the great philosophers have dealt with these issues.

However, as well as examinations of arguments about God's existence and nature, there has been a recent growth in interest in religious epistemology, the nature of faith and reason, religious pluralism, spirituality and philosophy as a way of life.
The field has broadened out from a relatively small range of key issues concerning Christianity to include a wide variety of issues and diverse religious traditions.
