Biography

Freda Neill is the Clinical Skills Manager in the School of Nursing and Midwifery where her primary responsibilities include leading the clinical skills teaching team, developing the clinical teaching components of the undergraduate nursing curriculum and supporting the clinical tutors teaching in the practice areas. From 2001 to 2007 Freda was the Project Manager for the Transition of Pre-registration Nursing and Midwifery into the college. In 2018 after an initial project of 3 years the Trinity Simulation Suite was opened. Currently we run courses in clinical simulation for all disciplines in our school and schools within the Faculty of Health Sciences. We have expanded our service from the TSS (Trinity Simulation Suite) to include delivering courses in partnership with our associated services. In 2020 I was the lead person who set up the Contact Tracing Center in the Business school in TCD along with volunteers from the Faculty of Health Sciences, the HSE and volunteers from a variety of other services.

Research Expertise

Higher Education with a particular interest in the development of teaching clinical skills for pre-registration nurses and the integration of these skills in the work practice area and simulated learning in the clinical skills teaching rooms and simulation suite. Developing simulated based education packages for UG and PG Nursing and Midwifery Disciplines. Developing Interprofessional Learning at school and faculty level. Further interests include primary care and family work in the community.

    CAPSL Learning Development Project 2005-2006, awarded €5,000. Project Title: Protocols and Tools for systematic Evaluation of Taught Programmes. Joint project funded with five other colleagues in the school, funded from the Centre for Teaching and Learning, TCD. The project was awarded €5,000 for the academic year 2005-2006.

    National Digital Learning Repository - Funding for developemt of on line learning tools
    Summary
    National Digital Learning Repository (NDLR) funded by the HEA, awarded €40,000. A member of the Schools project team contributing to the nursing community for the National Digital Learning Repository to support greater collaboration between Third Level Institutions. Currently I am one of a team of three staff from the school working in collaboration with a team from the School of Nursing, DCU, to develop on-line tools for Clinical Skills teaching. The first phase of the project is due for pilot in November 2007.
