Biography

I qualified as a registered nurse in London in 1986 and worked as a staff nurse for three years both in London and Reading before returning to Ireland. In October 1988 I worked for six months as a staff nurse in Beaumont hospital in the Renal dialysis unit. From here I moved to St.Vincents hospital and undertook the coronary care course, which was 6 months duration. I staffed in this unit for six months after the course. I then left and commenced my 2 year midwifery training in the Rotunda hospital. On successful completion of this I worked as a midwife in the Ritunda for 5 years where I worked in Delivery suite/Postnatal and IT. In 1997 I took leave of absence from my post and went to UCD to undertake the BNS Nursing/Midwifery Tutors course. On successful completion of this I then took up a Midwifery tutors post in the Coombe Women's Hospital where I remained until my transfer to TCD in August 2006. Am currently involved in all Midewifery programmes within the school and was course co-ordinator of the BSc Midwifery degree programme from Sept 2006-2010
