Welcome to Research at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin

At the School of Nursing and Midwifery, research is at the heart of everything we do. Our mission is to advance knowledge, challenge conventions, and create meaningful impact that directly improves the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. Through strong partnerships with clinicians, public-patient representatives, and international collaborators, we are committed to fostering a research environment that thrives on mentorship, innovation, and teamwork. Our four research centres and our cross-cutting themes focus on critical areas: ageing, healthcare innovation, chronic illness, maternal and women’s health, mental health and recovery, healthcare for older adults with intellectual disabilities, and child health. These priorities reflect our core values of justice and inclusion, dignity and respect, and a vision for sustainable and innovative healthcare.

With the launch of our new Research Strategy,  we are setting even more ambitious goals to address current and future health and social care challenges. This strategy is built on a foundation of collaboration, ensuring that our research remains person-centered, integrated, and forward-thinking. As we put this strategy into action, we are collectively supporting our researchers to drive innovation and deliver healthcare advancements on both national and international levels. We take pride in our success, from securing prestigious grants to celebrating innovative research awards for emerging and established talents. Our commitment to mentorship ensures that every researcher can realize their full potential. By working together, we aim to transform healthcare through impactful, world-class research that truly makes a difference.

Whether you are a student, collaborator, or visitor, we invite you to be part of our journey. Together, let’s innovate, inspire, and create a brighter future for healthcare.

Join us in shaping the future of healthcare.
