Mental Health & Care in Post Institutional Society
This research theme examines 'Contexts of Care Provision’ with specific reference to post institutional society. It seeks to explore and understand problematic institutional responses to human difficulties, while also examining the potential for care provision within contemporary communities and families.
This theme investigates both the Irish & international context, with particular reference to Mental Health & Intellectual Disability. The process seeks to separate future care solutions from the limitations of policies, professional bodies/structures and power dynamics that were formed within the established institutional responses to mental health and intellectual disability. A societal challenge addressed in this theme is how future care within society is framed within the dynamic relationship between the individual, the family, the state, the market/economy, and the wider social milieu.
