Drugs, Alcohol & Mental Health

Drug and alcohol use is a global challenge that has a significant association with psychological, social and physical health problems which impact the entire population.  Not all harms are caused through the direct use of drugs or alcohol, these can be reduced through good policy and the provision of appropriate treatment. Our research aims to further understand the context in which substances are used, and the impact of legal, policy, treatment, and prevention approaches on individuals and society.

The objective of our research theme is to inform policy and the development of high-quality services for people who use substances. Our research focuses on; workforce development, organisational evaluation, implementation science, young people, and dual diagnosis. We actively collaborate with organisations, such as service user groups, treatment services, and government departments to develop and disseminate new research.
