Yesterday the School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin and Peamount Healthcare signed a renewed memorandum of understanding. This agreement will continue to sustain long-established links across education, research and evidence-based care between Trinity and Peamount Healthcare.
Currently 38 undergraduate Trinity nursing students from across the General Nursing, Children’s & General Nursing and Intellectual Disability Nursing disciplines are undertaking placements at Peamount Healthcare. They are supported in their learning by the nursing and clinical staff, the Education and Practice Development Manager and a Student Allocation Liaison Officer.

Peamount Healthcare is an independent voluntary organisation that operates in partnership with the HSE CHO7 and the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group to provide a range of health and social care services. The focus of Peamount Healthcare’s services is on helping people to live more independently. It is an established provider of a wide range of rehabilitation services, including age-related care, respiratory rehabilitation, neuro rehabilitation, rheumatology rehabilitation and ambulatory care. Residential services are also provided for older persons, and people with a neurological and intellectual disability, in addition to a health and wellness centre and extensive community services.
Prof Mary McCarron, Head of the School of Nursing & Midwifery, said: “Peamount Healthcare and Trinity have a long-standing relationship which has led to excellent learning experiences for our nursing students and research collaboration across diverse projects. The care provided here is truly person-centered and I have always been impressed by how the staff champion self-determination for service users and residents. As a progressive healthcare provider, I’m sure Peamount Healthcare will continue to develop and respond to the future of a community embedded model of care. We look forward to continuing to work closely together.”
Tanya King, CEO of Peamount Healthcare, said: “At Peamount Healthcare we have embraced reinvention, adapting our services to meet the healthcare needs of the time. In today’s changing healthcare landscape, we continue to enhance our services and hope to develop more regional beds to care meet the specialist rehabilitation needs of our population. The addition of our 100-bed Aberdeen Centre to the campus marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to fostering innovation. We are unusual in that we are a non-acute multidisciplinary healthcare provider with specialist services employing Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists. As we look to the future, we would like to see further growth in the opportunities we offer across nurse education and advancement.”
