The School of Nursing and Midwifery is delighted to announce a new PhD Scholarship Programme which will offer part-time, PhD scholarships, jointly funded with associated health service providers.

These scholarships will be aimed at nurses, midwives, and healthcare professionals currently employed in practice, who wish to pursue a career in research and have a transformative impact on healthcare services in their organisation.

Their research will contribute to the development of high-quality evidence-based care, focused at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery with better outcomes for service users and their families/caregivers.

Organisations who partner with Trinity on this scholarship programme will advance their PhD-level expertise, create a pipeline of clinical scientists and cultivate professionals who can drive research agendas in practice. It is hoped that this programme will also help to address recruitment and retention issues within the health service by offering further career opportunities in research.

Prof Eilish Burke, Director of Research at the School of Nursing & Midwifery, said: “Our new joint PhD Scholarship Programme is an exciting development which will create opportunities for enhanced research activity and serve to build leadership capacity within our health service partners. It will also grow the pool of doctoral prepared nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals engaged in research both here at Trinity and nationally. These PhD students will share knowledge within their organisations and strengthen our mutual research partnerships and links across clinical practice. We look forward to working with interested partners to foster research talent together.”
