Yesterday, the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the foundation of the Discipline of Medical Gerontology recognised students for their achievements across clinical placement and research.

General Nursing student, Thiago Silva, was presented with one of the inaugural Davis Coakley Undergraduate Awards. Congratulations to Thiago on this well-deserved award for which he was nominated on the basis of his exceptional dedication and outstanding professionalism in the care of older patients observed during his placement on a specialist geriatric ward.

Dr Aoife McFeely, Specialist Registrar in Geriatric Medicine at Tallaght University Hospital and a Medical Doctorate student, was also awarded a medal for a presentation based on her research with Prof Mary McCarron and Prof Seán Kennelly which drew on data from the Intellectual Disability Supplement to the Irish Longitudinal Study of Aging (IDS-TILDA). Aoife’s presentation was titled: ‘Frailty identification and trajectory in an ageing population with intellectual disability.’
