International Scholarships for Current Students
Are you currently enrolled as a student of the School of Nursing & Midwifery? Check out the opportunities to study overseas through one of our international scholarships, which are awarded to students who are eager to travel and have a global clinical placement experience.

2026 University of Sydney Student Clinical Exchange
We are delighted to offer General Nursing and Children’s and General Integrated students (starting 2nd year in September 2025), the opportunity to apply for the University of Sydney Clinical Student Exchange.
This exchange comprises of 4 weeks clinical placement in Royal North Shore Hospital Sydney. You also have the option of taking an additional 4 weeks to stay and travel in Australia.
The application form is below. The data collected on this form is being obtained by the School of Nursing & Midwifery as part of the Scholarship Programme. Your data will only be used for these purposes and will not be released to other parties without your permission, except as permitted by law.
Key Dates
- Applications open: Friday 15th November 2024, 9am
- Applications close: Friday 22nd November 2024,12 midday
- Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed: Monday 1st December 2024
- All applicants will be notified of outcome by Friday 6th December 2024
The successful candidates will receive a scholarship to cover flights and accommodation for the month of clinical experience.
Flights: These will be booked and paid for by the school in cooperation with the successful candidates.
Accommodation: This is to be sourced by students. Any necessary pre-booking deposit can be paid by the school. The remainder of the scholarship after these deductions are made can be transferred to the student via your my.tcd.ie account when you arrive in Sydney.
There are two options for completion of the placement:
- Stay in Australia for the entire duration of the clinical time that your year group will be completing clinical placements in Ireland. The first 4 weeks will be designated as clinical time, the remainder will be for your own travel experience. Following the exam period, you will complete your remaining clinical hours during summer 2026.
- Return to Dublin after the 4 weeks placement to complete some remaining placement. Any outstanding hours will be arranged with the clinical allocation’s office.
Option decisions must be made known ahead of flight bookings before January end, 2025.
To be eligible to apply, students must satisfy all the following criteria:
- Must be a Senior Fresh General Nursing student at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin in January 2026.
- Students who have not yet availed of school international opportunities will be prioritised.
- Must have passed all assessments at first attempt (both theoretical and clinical).
- Must have a positive attitude, be motivated, committed and engaged throughout the programme.
- Must understand the ambassadorial role that accompanies this opportunity and be prepared to represent the School of Nursing and Midwifery accordingly.
- Must be willing to present on your experiences, provide photos on your return and write a 250 word testimonial for the website.
Applicants are asked to submit a short video (maximum length 3 minutes) either by WeTransfer or private YouTube link, addressing the following.
- Why should you be awarded this opportunity?
- What do you think you will learn?
- Why do you want to be a student nurse in Australia?
- Provide some examples of how you would manage on exchange e.g., previous travel/resilience etc.
- Provide evidence to demonstrate how you will represent the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Sydney.

2026 University of Queensland (Brisbane) Student Clinical Exchange
The School of Nursing and Midwifery is delighted to offer General Nursing, Children’s, and General Integrated students starting their second year in January 2026 the opportunity to apply for the University of Queensland Clinical Student Exchange.
This exchange comprises a four-week clinical placement in Brisbane. You then have the option of taking an additional four weeks to stay in Australia and travel.
Key Dates
- Applications open: Friday 15th November 2024, 9am
- Applications close: Friday 22nd November 2024,12 midday
- Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed: Monday 1st December 2024
- All applicants will be notified of outcome by Friday 6th December 2024

2025 School of Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship for International Programmes – Duke University and the University of Hong Kong (HKU)
We are delighted to offer all Senior Fresh and Junior Sophister Nursing and Midwifery students of all disciplines an opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend:
- Duke University School of Nursing’s Exploring Global Patterns of Health and Illness short-term programme 2.5 weeks.
- University of Hong Kong - HKU Summer Programme 2 weeks
These academic and socialisation experiences are designed for high-achieving and high-potential international nursing students interested in leadership careers in nursing science, practice, education, administration, and entrepreneurship.
Key Dates
- Applications open: Wednesday 25th of September 2024. 9 am
- Applications close: Wednesday 2nd of October 2024. 12 midday
- Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed on Tuesday 8th of October 2024
- All applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 11th of October 2024
To be eligible to apply, students must satisfy all the following criteria:
- Must be a Senior Fresh or Junior Sophister Nursing or Midwifery student at the School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin.
- Students who have not yet availed of School international opportunities will be prioritised.
- Spread of Opportunities across disciplines will also be taken to account.
- Must have passed theoretical and clinical assessments at first attempt.
- Must have a positive attitude, and be motivated, committed and engaged throughout the programme.
- Must understand the ambassadorial role that comes with this opportunity and be prepared to represent the School of Nursing and Midwifery accordingly.
- Must be willing to present on your experiences abroad, provide photos on your return and write a 250 word testimonial for the website.
Fill in the application form below. The data collected in the application form is obtained from the School of Nursing & Midwifery as part of the Duke and HKU Scholarship application process. Your data will be used for these purposes and will not be disclosed to third parties without your consent, except as permitted by law.
- If applying for both scholarships, fill out both application forms in full.
- As part of the application form you will be asked to provide 500 words on why you should be selected for the scholarship. Please make your answer specific to that opportunity.
