As we prepare to break for Christmas, we are thrilled to share a great news story. Our graduate Sophie Carragher has been offered a permanent contract with ICON. We sat down with Sophie to chat to her about her time in Trinity College, her role in ICON and about what getting a permanent contract in ICON means to her.

We were thrilled to be featured in an article in The Irish Times entitled: How third level is becomming a real option for people with intellectual disabilities. The article by Peter McGuire highlighted the importance of inclusive opportunities for study at third level and the positive impact that it has on the students themselves.

TCPID were well represented at the Inclusion in Action Conference in UCC, December 4th and 5th. Organised by id+ Project University College Cork (UCC), in association with joinIN Inclusive Higher Education Network, this European State of the Art (ESOTA) Conference was titled; Inclusion in Action: Creative and Critical Insights from Programmes for Students with Intellectual Disability in Higher Education.

The Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities are delighted to announce a new partnership with Kefron. Our graduate Ciaran Moran has recently received a permanent contract working with The Library of Trinity College Dublin. Here is an interview with Ciaran, along with some quotes from his family and from his colleagues in the Library.

The TCPID were delighted to welcome a visiting delegation from Yutaka College in Japan on June 25th and 26th. The visitors included Mr and Mrs Hasegawa who set up Yutaka College in 2015 and since then have provided educational programmes for students with intellectual disabilities in over eight campuses in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Fukuoka and Nagasaki.

The TCPID hosted its annual Summer School from the 18th to the 20th of June 2024 at Trinity College Dublin. This year, the programme welcomed 25 participants, including five students from the Clemson LIFE programme at Clemson University, South Carolina who were on a study abroad programme.

The Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities were very proud to have been invited to a photo call on Wednesday July 3rd with Taoiseach Simon Harris, Minister Patrick O Donovan and Minister Hildegarde Naughton for an exciting announcement about the third level programmes for students with intellectual disabilities being supported through the PATH 4 Phase 2 funding.

The TCPID are very proud to announce a new partnership with Aer Lingus. Aer Lingus’s mission is to be a bigger, better, future-focused airline, and their people are central to that ambition. On Thursday May 30th the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities hosted our annual SciFest@TCPID 2024 student exhibition and awards in association with the incredible team from Abbott. The event once again took place in Regent House in Trinity College Dublin. Nine TCPID students displayed their projects at the event.

Trinity College Dublin has launched a collaborative educational initiative, the Co-Learning pilot project, bringing together students from the Trinity Centre for People with Intellectual Disabilities and undergraduate students from the School of English.
