Seanad hustings event held at Trinity

The candidates took part in two debates, hosted by broadcaster Áine Kerr, followed by audience questions. Among the issues discussed were education, disability, housing, health, climate and data centres.
A hustings event was held at Trinity College Dublin last night ahead of the upcoming Seanad election.
Sixteen candidates are running for election to three Seanad seats in the University of Dublin constituency. The list of candidates and their biographies are available on this page.
The candidates (pictured above with Provost Dr Linda Doyle) took part in two debates, hosted by broadcaster Áine Kerr, followed by audience questions. Among the issues discussed were education, disability, housing, health, climate and data centres. Candidate Abbas Ali O’Shea could not attend and a video of him was shown instead.
This is the last time Trinity graduates will elect senators to the University of Dublin constituency. From 2026, Irish citizens who have graduated from Trinity College Dublin, the National University of Ireland colleges, or fifteen further higher education institutions will elect six senators in the new Higher Education constituency.
Past Trinity senators have included Mary Robinson and David Norris.
