Professor Damian Murchan becomes President of Association for Educational Assessment Europe

AEA Europe is the premier association for all assessment professionals throughout Europe. Members are drawn from examination agencies, government education ministries, research institutes, schools and universities and the corporate sector.
Professor Damian Murchan, School of Education, is the new President of the Association for Educational Assessment Europe (AEA Europe).
Elected as Vice-President and President-Elect in 2022, he now begins his two-year term as President in an era of unprecedented change in educational assessment in Europe and globally. AEA Europe is the premier association for all assessment professionals throughout Europe. Members are drawn from examination agencies, government education ministries, research institutes, schools and universities and the corporate sector. The association provides a forum for the exchange of ideas on assessment policies, processes and products evident across Europe and globally. Its recent annual conference explored the role of technology and AI in assessment.

Professor Damian Murchan is Associate Professor in the School of Education and a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin, the University of Dublin. His experience, teaching and research interests span Primary, Secondary and Higher Education levels. His research interests include educational reform, assessment methods, e-learning, and professional development for teachers.
Professor Murchan has held several advisory roles in relation to the development of assessment policy and practice in Ireland and internationally. Formerly a teacher and principal in primary schools, he has also held university leadership positions as Head of the School of Education and Head of the School of Creative Arts in Trinity College Dublin. His research is widely disseminated through books, journals and conference presentations internationally. He recently co-authored the book ‘Understanding and Applying Assessment in Education Second Edition’ (SAGE, 2024).
