Spirituality and Resilience
Trinity Spirituality Research and Innovation Group Seminar Series 2024: 'Revisioning Spiritual Healthcare' Seminar 3: Spirituality and Resilience Presented by Dr Sílvia Caldeira, Associate Professor at Faculty of Health Sciences and Nursing, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Lisbon Chaired by Prof Jacqueline Whelan, TCD School of Nursing and Midwifery Spirituality and resilience are interconnected concepts addressing different dimensions of human experience, particularly in times of crisis, illness, or life transitions. Spirituality relates to the search for meaning, purpose, and connection to self, others, or something greater than oneself. Is a dimension of life that has gained important attention from the scientific community in recent years in different perspectives, always based on the imperative for humanised, holistic, and dignity-preserving care. Resilience focuses on an individual's ability to overcome adversity, and spiritual strategies and beliefs are helpful. When we discuss overcoming illness, such as chronic, life-limiting conditions or suffering, spirituality flourishes as a main dimension in such experiences. In this talk, we will revisit spirituality as a dimension of life and health and the interconnected relationship with resilience, which healthcare workers should be committed to facilitating and supporting. Please note that this seminar will be recorded and later published online. By asking a question / making a comment during the lecture, you are consenting to your contribution being recorded.
