Hope and Urgency: Navigating the Biodiversity and Climate Crisis
Join the British Ecological Society for an inspiring event that explores the pressing issues of biodiversity and climate crisis on the island of Ireland. This in-person gathering will be chaired by Louise Cullen BBC NI Environment Correspondent and will take place on Mon Dec 11 2023 at 18:15 in 'The Studio' at the Grand Opera House in Belfast 2-4 Great Victoria Street, Belfast, BT2 7HR.
During this event, we will get into the challenges our planet and the island of Ireland faces and the urgent actions needed to preserve biodiversity and combat climate change. Renowned experts will share their insights and experiences. Through engaging presentations and thought-provoking discussions we aim to encourage hope and action.
This event will be welcomed by British Ecological Society CEO Dr Hazel Norman. We will then be hearing from Professor Peter Thorne (Maynooth University) who will provide a summary of the climate science, Professor Yvonne Buckley (Trinity College Dublin) who will cover the connection between biodiversity and climate change, Professor John Barry (Queen's University Belfast) who will discuss the social science aspect of the climate biodiversity crisis, Dr Jonathan Bell (RSPB NI) will look at nature-based solutions and Dr Annika Clements (DAERA) who will discuss marine and coastal issues and policy. Professor Yadvinder Malhi CBE FRS will close the event with some reflections on the discussion.
Don't miss this opportunity. Join us and be informed and empowered to understand the complexities of the biodiversity and climate crisis.
