“I am excited and privileged to be taking the reins in the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute (TTMI). Through the new TTMI strategy, we have plans to enhance integration with our clinical partners, in particular CHI and Tallaght University Hospital, and with aligned research centres such as the Trinity St James’ Cancer Institute, TBSI and the Wellcome-HRB Clinical Research Facility at St James’ Hospital. Thanks to the expert stewardship of outgoing director Aideen Long, who led the institute through COVID during her more than six years in charge, TTMI is in a strong position to continue to make impactful discoveries in the field of translational medicine.”

Excellence in research is critical to TTMI’s underpinning philosophy of the acquisition of knowledge to enhance human wellbeing and realise human benefit. The quality of our research in turn enhances our credibility in education and outreach.

TTMI's strategy of improving human health through translational research is predicated on clinical, laboratory- based and health service research informed by real world clinical bedside problems, and societal and global health challenges.

The Institute’s targeted research portfolio is designed to develop improved diagnostics, therapeutics and devices. The patient-centred research that takes place there tackles important healthcare delivery issues; informs policy and clinical practice, disseminates impactful research, and enhances the quality of education of healthcare professionals.
