Trinity sees increase in first preference CAO applications for 2017

This year 18,237 students applied to Trinity College representing 24% of the total number of applications submitted to CAO. A total of 8,142 students selected Trinity as their first choice, an increase of almost 2% on 2016 and representing 11% of the applications for Level 8 courses in the CAO system.
At Trinity’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences first preference applications to the following courses have increased – Law & Political Science (+32%); Law & Business (+26%); Music (+20%); History and Political Science (+21%); Clinical Speech and Language Studies (+15%); History (+13%); Law (+8%).
In the Faculty of Engineering, Mathematics and Science first preference applications to the following courses have increased – Medicinal Chemistry (+37%); Mathematics (+30%); Computer Science and Business (+15%).
In the Faculty of Health Sciences first preference applications have increased for Human Health & Disease (+31%); Dental Science (+8%); Occupational Therapy (+5%); Physiotherapy (+3%).
There is a 2% increase at sectoral level in applications to Administration and Business and this is reflected in Trinity’s courses as first preference applications to Business have increased by 50% and to BESS by 11%.
Additionally, the number of students applying to Trinity from Northern Ireland has increased from 885 in 2016 to 920 in 2017.
