Trinity Annual Fund Student Awards 2009

Economics and Political Science student, Nicholas Kenny, was announced the overall winner of the 2009 Trinity Annual Fund Student Awards at a ceremony held on April 30th last. Of 29 applications for this year’s competition, five finalists were shortlisted. The other finalists honoured on the day were TCD students Hilary Allen, Paul Gallagher, Jennifer Geraghty and Mark Moore.
The purpose of the awards is to recognise students who have made an outstanding contribution to Trinity life in the past year contributing through sports clubs, societies and other areas of College life. The Trinity Annual Fund is supported by Trinity Alumni who contribute financially to Trinity College for the purpose of supporting grassroots projects and initiatives that enhance the Trinity experience.
“Having reviewed all applications for 2009 awards I am amazed at the range of activities that students commit to in Trinity today on top of their demanding academic workloads”, stated Alumni Director, John Dillon, at the awards ceremony. “The awards are an excellent way of recognising students’ contribution to the Trinity experience amongst the College community and communicating this to our alumni who fund the awards each year.”

About the winners
Winner Nicholas Kenny is known to be a compassionate and determined individual with an obvious and contagious passion and enthusiasm. During his time at Trinity, he has contributed to College life through a wide range of activities including, the DU Boat Club as Regatta Secretary, as President of the Cancer Society and the DU Business and Economic Society, and as a member of Trinity Players. Nicholas was also the CSC ‘Fresher of the Year’ award in 2006/07.
Economics and Political Science student, Hilary Allen has spent her time in Trinity involved in a range of societies as well as the Students’ Union. She has made a valuable contribution to the College community through the following activities, contributor to Trinity News, class representative in Business Economics and Social Studies, Treasurer of the Social and Political Review, Current Affairs Editor of Trinity FM and a debates hostess for the Historical Society.
Management Science and Information Systems Studies student, Jennifer Geraghty dedicates unlimited hours to organising events, promoting and working on social matters, with nothing but positivity. She has inspired and mentored numerous other students encouraging them to get involved and give as much to the College community as possible. Jennifer has contributed to College life by participating as Head of Design and Event Coordinator for the Trinity Arts Festival, a committee member in DU Food and Drink and DU Management Science and Information Systems society as well as an activity leader with St Vincent de Paul and a member of the Student Union Campaign Team
As president of the Junior Common Room in Trinity Hall, Mark Moore heads up one of the largest student groups in College. Many students have benefited from the contribution he has made to Trinity life. Mark has also held the positions of science class representative and school convenor as well as being a Trinity Access Programmes volunteer.
Management Science and Information Systems Studies student, Paul Gallagher has contributed to the Trinity experience as President of the DU Food and Drink Society Treasurer of the DU Management Science Society, a committee member of the Trinity Arts Festival and member of the Student Experience Forum.
