Max Planck Digital Library Collaborates with Trinity on Digital Humanities Research Project

A new academic collaboration between the CENDARI project, coordinated through the Trinity Long Room Hub, and the Max Planck Digital Library in Munich, will enable both partners to develop their respective academic strengths and research strategies.

CENDARI is a Seventh EU Framework Programmed (FP-7) funded project in Digital Humanities aimed at facilitating access to archives and resources in Europe for the study of medieval and modern history through the creation of a digital ‘enquiry environment’. The Max Planck Digital Library is internationally renowned in the management and distribution of research data and  results, particularly in the realm of digital repositories and the design of graphical user interfaces.

Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Dr Jennifer Edmond of the Trinity Long Room Hub and Principal Investigator on the CENDARI project said: “This collaboration represents an excellent opportunity for the historians and researchers involved in CENDARI to share skills and expertise with a high-calibre institution such as the Max Planck Digital Library within a programme of cutting-edge technical development.”

There was further cause for celebration within the CENDARI consortium when President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins presented the project with an Outstanding Achievement Award at the ‘Ireland’s Champions of EU Research’ event which took place in the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin, recently.

Five researchers received outstanding achievement awards for their projects which were ranked first in the EU in their respective research areas. Enterprise Ireland hosted the event on behalf of Ireland’s National Support Network for FP7.

A panel discussion at the event focused on Ireland’s success in FP-7 to date, in maximising participation in the final, and largest round of funding, launching in July 2012 and in capitalising on the opportunities presented by Horizon 2020, the new EU programme for research and innovation in 2014.

The CENDARI project was ranked first in Integrating Activities in the Infrastructures area.
