Integrated Healthcare Focus of PhD Scholars Programme in Health Services Research

The first cohort of students to graduate from the cross institutional PhD Scholars Programme in Health Services Research marked the completion of their four year course at a special event held recently at Trinity College Dublin.  The event, which was attended by incoming students and representatives from the partner institutions, Trinity College Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and University College Cork, also recognised further funding from the Health Research Board (HRB) for a fifth intake of students into the programme. 

Established in 2007, the structured PhD Scholars Programme in Health Services Research provides training for Scholars in core research skills needed to deliver an evidence basis for health service evaluation and planning.  Funded by the Health Research Board (HRB), the programme is a joint initiative of the Health Services Research Institute constituting senior academic staff from Trinity College Dublin, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and University College Cork. 

With the theme “Integrated healthcare: from research to policy and practice”, the course offers Scholars an opportunity to specialise in a broad range of areas and aims to develop a pool of academic and professional expertise in Health Services Research in Ireland.  The four-year PhD model of education combines the best and most relevant science for Irish health services and ultimately for population health.  Further information on the course is available on the website.
