Fourth Week Initiative Highlights the ‘Trinity Experience’
Posted on: 18 October 2010
The Fourth Week initiative organised by the Central Societies Committee (CSC) will run from October 18th to 22nd and aims to highlight the central role student-led societies and activities play within the lives of students during their time in Trinity College. With over 100 student societies on offer, participating in one or several of the clubs, societies, volunteer groups or other social activities is an integral part of the Trinity experience and one not to be missed.
Taking part in a student-led activity has proven to foster a sense of collegiality amongst the College community and plays a vital role in student retention within the University. For those students who did not have an opportunity to join a society during Freshers’ week the CSC will have a stand in the Arts Building between 12-3pm on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of Fourth Week where you can discuss the range of societies on offer with a representative from the CSC and find out about how to join up.
During the Fourth Week last year the Dorian Gray Project was launched which saw staff and students have their portraits taken for inclusion in a digital ‘time capsule’. Named after one of TCD’s most famous alumni, Oscar Wilde, whose novel The Picture of Dorian Gray tells a tale of youth and beauty, the Dorian Gray Project plans to release the images to all participants after the course of a decade. To mark the first anniversary of the project an image of the Front Square of College made up of individual portraits rendered into miniature format will be launched on the CSC website on the 20th October where it will be possible to zoom in and view each individual tile. This mosaic of the College will represent the living element that embodies College life, capturing a series of moments in time. A printed version of the finished piece will also be hung in the Arts Building in the coming weeks.
