Engineered! A Week of Wonder comes to TCD

Engineered! A Week of Wonder is a programme of engineering and technological interactive events aimed at inspiring and exciting school children about the world of engineering. Trinity College participated in A Week of Wonder’s Treasure Hunt on 22 February. Over 400 children visited the campus when one of the clues led them to the Department of Mechanical Engineering. From there they were directed to the Printing House where exhibits relating to engineering were on view.

These exhibits included an automatic guided buggy, a vibrating airplane to show deformation modes, a bridge exhibit and a thermal imaging exhibit. At the Printing House, the treasure hunt teams were directed to the next venue off campus.

Dr Ciaran Simms, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Trinity organiser of the Engineered! A Week of Wonder Dublin city treasure hunt said “I am delighted at the opportunity to welcome so many children to College, and I hope that we can offer them a day of fun and stimulate their interest in engineering and in Trinity College. We hope that the combination of visiting our campus, interacting with our engineering exhibits and the people demonstrating them, and the selection of engineering inspired party packs which we have acquired for each child will stimulate their interest in engineering in the future”.

Organised by Steps to Engineering, Engineers Ireland, other events throughout the week included magic shows, exhibitions, workshops and tours.
