Adventure Athlete Mark Pollock Leads Trinity College to a Healthier Future

Former TCD student, international speaker, sportsman and entrepreneur, Mark Pollock, rallied TCD students and staff to stop making excuses and make it happen at the launch of Trinity College ‘s fifth annual Health and Sports Week on Monday  April 6th. 

This year’s Health and Sports Week theme, Vision for Health, aims to encourage Trinity staff and students to be healthier by achieving the right balance of work, rest and play. As part of Health and Sports Week, Mark Pollock delivered an inspirational and motivating talk to over 150 Trinity staff and students entitled ‘Making it Happen’ encouraging them to stop making excuses and make the decisions which will lead them to a better life.

Other events throughout the Health and Sports Week include a talk by Professor Ian Robertson of the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience, entitled ‘Stay Sharp with the Mind Doctor’, free lunchtime activities such as croquet, yoga, pilates, tai chi, body toning, power walking and free fitness theatre inductions. Health check stands including the Marie Keating Foundation mobile unit, cholesterol testing and eye testing as well as information stands from the Migraine Association, the Employee Assistance Programme, and the Revenue Online Service will be in the Arts Building throughout the week. Healthy eating menus will also be running throughout College catering outlets.

Mark Pollock, who lost his sight suddenly in 1998, has rebuilt his life and gone on to become one of Ireland ‘s most inspiring individuals. As well a becoming a successful entrepreneur and motivational speaker, Mark’s achievements include: completing six marathons in one week in China’s Gobi Desert; racing in the world’s most extreme marathon at the North Pole; completing Ironman Switzerland; and kayaking across the Irish sea.
