Titanic Belfast supports generous bursary worth €20,000 over four years
First-year Trinity student Diarmuid Hanna has become the first recipient of a new Titanic Belfast - Trinity College Dublin Undergraduate Scholarship, designed to support and encourage students from Northern Ireland to avail of the Trinity educational experience [Friday January 31].
The scholarship, which will be offered to students annually for an initial period of five years, provides a bursary of €5,000 a year throughout a four-year undergraduate degree.
Diarmuid, a student of Management Science and Information System Studies who attended secondary school in Belfast, was one of dozens of first-year Trinity students from Northern Ireland to apply for the scholarship late last year. Each applicant had to submit a statement outlining their academic ambitions and their hopes for the role they can play in the Trinity community.
Trinity Senior Lecturer Vincent Wade congratulated Diarmuid on his achievement, adding: “Trinity sees itself as a university for the whole island of Ireland so we are delighted to find a way to demonstrate that to our students from Northern Ireland. We are conscious of the costs students face in attending university and we are extremely grateful to Titanic Belfast for its generous support in facilitating this scholarship.”
Judith Owens MBE, CEO of Titanic Belfast International, said: “Titanic Belfast is delighted to be partnering with Trinity College Dublin in supporting students from Northern Ireland to study at Trinity through its Titanic Belfast Community Impact Fund. I am delighted that the inaugural scholarship awardee has been chosen and I would like to wish Diarmuid Hanna every success in his studies over the next four years. I look forward to continuing our partnership with Trinity and future scholars.”
