Trinity welcomes International Geography Olympiad
Posted on: 24 August 2024
Over 300 young geographers from across the world came to Trinity today to close out the 2024 International Geography Olympiad (iGEO).
Secondary school students, aged between 16-18, have been taking part in the iGEO in Maynooth University this week and travelled to Trinity for the final day of the Olympiad. Since Monday, students have been taking part in field work, geography exams and cultural events including visits to the National Museum of Ireland, the National Gallery and the Chester Beatty.
This is the first time the event has been held in Ireland.
Ireland was represented by Riddhiba Rana and Jennifer Grimes (Manor House School, Raheny) and Cadhla Tuner and Ava Mulhall (Wicklow Town Educate Together Secondary School).
“Geography enables young people to make sense of our ever-changing world,” said Trinity’s Dr Susan Pike. “The students at this year’s iGEO have been inspirational, they’ve embraced the challenges of the Olympiad and it has been brilliant to see them take on fieldwork and tests with such enthusiasm. And the fun and friendships that have sprung up during their week together will stay with the students for many years.”
