Trinity Alumni leading College Awareness Week with nationwide webinars

Posted on: 18 November 2024

This year College Awareness Week runs from the 18th to the 24th of November. The campaign aims to help students learn about the experiences they could have at college and the subjects they may want to study.

The nationwide webinars are designed to promote diversity and inclusion.

And College Awareness Week (CAW) begins with the Webinar for the Travelling Community Teaching Resource, with Annmarie Collins. Annmarie came through the Trinity Access Programmes (TAP) Foundation course and is now pursuing her PhD in Trinity.

She said: “I hope that both the positive and challenging learning in this resource can assist us as educators in our work and in developing our understanding of the needs and the potential of learners from the Travelling Community.”

On Tuesday (19th of November) CAW, along with the Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) and the Higher Education Access Route (HEAR), will provide another webinar to students in every second-level school in Ireland.

This is a collaboration with the Irish Universities Association (IUA) and IUA Access Manager and Trinity graduate Daniel McFarlane will lead this webinar.

CAW was founded in 2014 by TAP Associate Director Kathleen O’Toole-Brennan. Since then, Irish universities have seen an increase in the number of students from diverse backgrounds attending higher education.

However, there is still great work to be done in supporting under-represented groups on their educational journeys.
