Prof. Jennifer Edmond appointed as National Coordinator for Ireland’s participation in DARIAH ERIC

Trinity Digital Humanities Professor Jennifer Edmond (pictured above on right) has been apppointed as National Coordinator for Ireland’s participation in the DARIAH ERIC, Research Ireland announced this week.

DARIAH is the pan-European Digital Research Infrastructure for the Arts and Humanities, a network of scholars working with computational methods.

Trinity will hold the role of the National Coordinating Institution supporting the work of the National Coordinator. This appointment, for a period of four years, has been made following an open call for a new National Coordinator. 

DARIAH is a designated ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) since 2014 and the network has a membership of 22 countries. It develops, maintains and operates infrastructure in support of ICT-based research practices related to the humanities and supports researchers in using them to build, analyse and interpret digital resources. The mission of the DARIAH ERIC is to enhance and support digitally- enabled research across the humanities and arts, as well as the teaching of digital research methods.

Professor Edmond, in her role as National Coordinator for DARIAH, will facilitate engagement between Ireland-based researchers and DARIAH, and work to enhance DARIAH’s footprint in Ireland in collaboration with the coordinators from across the European network and with other key stakeholders. Ireland’s membership of DARIAH will open up new opportunities for research and training and further build capacity for digital humanities within the Irish research and innovation system.

Professor Edmond, based in Trinity College Dublin, has a wealth of experience in the area of Digital Humanities, and collaboration in this field within Europe and internationally., Jennifer is very well placed as coordinator to leverage the benefits of membership of DARIAH for Irish research. This announcement today, following on from the success of other relevant initiatives such as the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Research Collaboration places Ireland in a strong position to drive forward momentum in the area of Digital Humanities research and engagement.

Professor Jennifer Edmond added:
