17 candidates to contest University of Dublin Seanad bye-election

17 candidates will contest the upcoming University of Dublin Seanad bye-election, after nominations closed today.
Ballots for the election will be posted to registered voters on 25 February 2022. The closing date for the return of ballots is 30 March 2022.
The bye-election is being held to fill the vacancy left by Labour TD Ivana Bacik after she was elected to the Dáil last year.
This will be the first bye-election for the University of Dublin constituency since 1979.
Over 67,000 Trinity graduates are registered to vote. The winner of the bye-election will join Senators David Norris and Lynn Ruane in the upper chamber of the Oireachtas.
The University of Dublin constituency has existed since 1938.
In that time notable Senators for the University have included former President Mary Robinson, Owen Sheehy-Skeffington and former Minister Shane Ross.
