NatPro's Dr Gaia Scalabrino Joins RuralBioUp

Pioneering a Sustainable Future

NatPro is delighted to share that Dr Gaia Scalabrino, Executive Director of NatPro, Trinity Centre for Natural Products Research, joins as stakeholder member the RuralBioUp Irish hub driven by Irish Bioeconomy Foundation (IBF), in supporting rural areas in the national transition to bioeconomy and sustainability. RuralBioUp consortium consists of 12 international organisations from 9 European countries: Austria, Czechia, Estonia, France, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Portugal and Romania. These hubs will play a pivotal role in supporting regional actors, including farmers, civil society organisations, clusters, innovators and policymakers.

RuralBioUp Irish Hub had its kick-off meeting on the 16 November 2023 in Tipperary, including a visit to the National Bioeconomy Campus. The Hubs aim is to bring stakeholders knowledge to rural areas with activities and actions to ease the adoption of bio-based solutions to boost rural development.

About RuralBioUp

The RuralBioUp project is funded by Horizon Europe Programme and is designed to enhance cooperation among key regional actors and knowledge holders, with the goal of supporting bio-based business models in rural areas.

This project will implement nine action plans focused on 18 different value chains. This approach aims to support at least 1,000 innovators, facilitating their involvement in networking events and other activities across Europe. Additionally, RuralBioUp seeks to foster 50 new inter- and intra-value chain collaborations.

A key goal of RuralBioUp is to mainstream bio-based business models in rural areas. This involves establishing an inclusive and long-lasting ecosystem that supports the development and implementation of these models.

RuralBioUp represents a comprehensive effort to boost the bioeconomy in rural European regions by leveraging collaboration, innovation, and sustainable business practices. As part of this transformative project, NatPro is excited to journey alongside with other leading entities in Europe. This collaboration signifies a step forward in harnessing innovation, collaboration, and sustainable practices to boost the bioeconomy in rural European regions.
