NatPro is awarded re-certification with My Green Lab

8th Feb 2024

NatPro, the Trinity Centre for Natural Products Research, is delighted to share that the NatPro lab, in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences have been re-certified by My Green Lab, retaining the highest ‘green’ level.

NatPro was first certified in Dec 2021 at that time achieving the highest certification ‘green’ level. This re-certification highlights NatPro's continued commitment to sustainability practices in their research and the team ongoing efforts.

Our green lab re-certification can be accredited to the combined efforts of our dedicated team. Over the years, our members have helped build and improve upon our sustainability practices, resulting in the high green standards that can be found at NatPro. Our monthly sustainability meetings allow us to explore topics such as waste, energy and water usage in our labs, and our own individual skills and scientific knowledge gives us the expertise to assess and change key aspects of our workplace, so that NatPro has an overall better environmental impact.
Participating in the My Green Lab Ambassador meetings, as well as virtual events, such as the 2024 Global Freezer Challenge, allows us to keep up with current green initiatives and practices on a global level, and assists us in implementing significant, long-lasting changes that coincide with our sustainability goals.
With the increased numbers of labs in Trinity obtaining green lab certification, this shows the awareness and drive for more environmentally conscious approaches, and I’m looking forward to seeing a more eco-friendly TCD in the future, in which all the labs are green certified
Cillian Gately, NatPro Green Labs Responsible Person

Since its inception in 2020, NatPro has woven sustainability into the centre’s ethos. NatPro’s holistic approach spans across strategic planning to detailed lab operations.

We have embedded green awareness into NatPro’s culture from the start. All NatPro researchers are trained as My Green Lab Ambassadors as part of their induction, the topic is discussed regularly at team meetings and Cillian is our responsible person, who leads the agenda internally. Commitment to behavioural and process change is a complex journey and our goal is to strive for achievable and realistic continuous improvement to deliver bio-based solutions with greater alignment to societal and environmental needs.
