Postgraduates
At the heart of the Medieval History Research Centre is a thriving community of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers, some of whom are undertaking taught programmes, leading to the degree of MPhil in Medieval History, while others are studying for the research degrees of MLitt or PhD.
Graduate Students in the Centre participate in the weekly James Lydon Medieval History Seminar during term time, and play an active role in the Centre's many symposia, workshops and related activities.
Our taught MPhil programme is highly-regarded internationally and offers the perfect transition from undergraduate study to specialist research in medieval history and culture.
The Research Postgraduate Programmes are assessed by thesis alone. The thesis for the PhD is more substantial than that for the MLitt (a maximum of 100,000, as opposed to 60,000, words), and takes correspondingly longer to complete, usually four years for the PhD and two years for the MLitt.
