Prof. Mark Little and researchers from Trinity College Dublin have answered the HRB COVID-19 pandemic rapid response funding call. The Renal Inflammation Group are working on a COVID-19 project called DeCOmPRESS, which stands for ‘defining the disease course and immune profile of COVID-19 in the immunosuppressed patient’. Our team want to better understand how the immune system responds to the SARS-COV-2 virus and in patients who are taking immunosuppressive medications. This will help us provide clear guidance to patients with respect to cocooning and their current use of immunosuppressant medication. Watch this short video from Prof. Little explaining the study.
ANCA-vasculitis patients currently enrolled in the RKD Biobank are eligible for DeCOmPRESS. Patients will be split into different groups based on the treatment they have received for AAV and their responses to COVID-19 will be compared. The study process can be summarised in the figure below. If you have contracted COVID-19 please contact rkdnurse@tcd.ie. Please continue to follow government guidelines on social distancing and advice on protecting those most at risk. Visit our COVID-19 guidance page for vasculitis-specific advice.
