The Discipline of Clinical Microbiology has research facilities in the Trinity Translational Medicine Institute at the St James’s Hospital and Tallaght University Hospital campuses.
Research themes in the discipline include:
- Invasive fungal infections
- Nosocomial infections
- Gram-negative enterobacteriacae
- The airway microbiome
- Antimicrobial resistance
- Mycobacterial infections
Our research projects have in general a translational focus, but also applied and basic research aspects. Several of our research projects are conducted in collaboration with academic and clinical partners at a national and international level. We apply a wide range of methods, including automated fluorescence microscopes and next generation sequencing (NGS).
