Research Expertise

  • Title
The Mechanical Properties of Mammalian Skeletal Tissue
    Summary
The mechanical properties of biological soft tissues are presently poorly classified. Muscle tissue presents difficulties due to its active and passive components, non-linearity, viscoelasticity and anisotropy. Muscle is subject to large deformations and is thus not represented by classical linear elasticity. Furthermore, parameters such as age, gender and species are also influential. The project will determine the mechanical properties of human muscle as a function of these variables and so allow better models to be developed. This will aid the topic of impact biomechanics.
