Congratulations to PhD student Wenguang Zhao for winning the
2022 THERMINIC Best Poster Award
for his paper entitled "Towards Quieter Air-Cooling Systems: Rotor Self-noise Prediction for Axial Cooling Fans", by Wenguang Zhao, Sahan Wasala and Tim Persoons.
Wenguang Zhao, Vadim Tsoi (Huawei, Sweden), John Janssen (NXP, The Netherlands) and Tim Persoons
Wenguang works on reduced order modelling of the aeroacoustic noise emission and aerodynamic performance of electronics cooling fans for data centre applications, under supervision of Assoc Prof Tim Persoons and in collaboration with Dr Sahan Wasala, SFI RD&I Industry Fellow at Seagate Technology, Longmont, Colorado, USA. His PhD research is co-funded by the NSF Cooling Technologies Research Center (CTRC) at Purdue University, and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) – Trinity College Dublin Joint Scholarship Programme.
The 28th International Workshop on Thermal Investigations of ICs and Systems (THERMINIC) was organised by Tim Persoons and co-chairs (Michael Gibbons, Tony Robinson, Rocco Lupoi) in Dublin, 28-30 Sept 2022, which was the first time this annual meeting of electronics cooling experts from academia and industry was held in Ireland. The Best Paper Award and Best Young Presenter Award winners were Prof. Bernhard Wunderle (TU Chemnitz, Germany) and Ms. Nooshin Karami (PhD student in Université de Sherbrooke, Canada), respectively.
THERMINIC 2022 featured 37 oral presentations, 37 poster presentations, an on-site industry exhibition and a 1-day short course on 27 Sept 2022, as well as three keynotes by Prof. Em. John R. Thome (EPFL, Switzerland), Ir. Johannes van Es (Royal Netherlands Aerospace Centre) and Prof. Justin A. Weibel (Purdue University, USA). The workshop was attended by 115 delegates, representing 20 different countries and a mix of 40% industry and 60% academic researchers.
