A Decade of Rebellion

This slim 48-page booklet, published in 2017 by Dublin City Council and authored by labour historian Pádraig Yeates, covers events in Dublin from 1913-1923. After the 1916 Insurrection, or Easter Rising as it was also known, the phrase 'were you out in 1916?' was quite common. As the sub-title — some reflections on lesser visited aspects of the Irish revolution in Dublin - suggests, some of the seedier events of Easter week and the Lockout around the GPO, Moore Street, Moore Lane and O'Connell Street are examined. This short book is replete with many interesting images including the destroyed Liberty Hall, a very splendid image of Constance Markievicz and cartoons from the Irish Worker and cartoonist Ernest Kavanagh.
