Biography
Sophie van der Valk previously conducted research in the field of counter terrorism, specifically examining issues concerning the prosecution and other measures used against foreign fighters. She obtained an honours BCLG in Law and German from University College Cork, Ireland. Her undergraduate studies also included an Erasmus year of studying German law at Philipps University Marburg, Germany. Sophie completed her Masters of Laws degree at Leiden University, the Netherlands and wrote her LL.M. thesis on the legal requirements for the use of targeted killings against terrorists both from an international humanitarian law perspective and human rights perspective.
