Biography
Robert Noonan is a Ph.D. student supported by an Ussher Fellowship researching constitutional law and legal theory under the supervision of Dr Oran Doyle. Robert graduated from Trinity College, University of Dublin in 2014 with first class honours in the LL.B. degree. He then pursued graduate study at the University of Oxford and obtained the degree of B.C.L. in 2015, graduating with distinction.
His thesis focuses on doctrinal and theoretical problems arising around legal validity, unconstitutionality, and the mode of existence or non-existence of legal norms. In particular, his research seeks to motivate an understanding of the metaphysics of legal phenomena through the prism of how laws in various jurisdictions may become extinguished, for example as the result of a court declaration of invalidity or unconstitutionality
