This talk considers the research presented in a draft chapter from my upcoming book Anti-Racism as a Legal Principle (OUP). The chapter inaugurates Part II of the book and presents the bulk of what is the prevailing doctrine on racial discrimination under the main equality legislation in the UK—the Equality Act 2010. It considers to what extent does the doctrine address 'structural racism' and reflect a model of 'transformative anti-racism' (concepts introduced in Part I of the book). It finds that, far from responding to structural racism, the Equality Act 2010 appears as, what Bourdieu called, a 'structuring structure', of racism itself. The chapter traces the specific ways in which the technical aspects of the Equality Act 2010 reflect this.
