Dr Marta Lasek-Markey awarded Brian Bercusson Award by European Trade Union Confederation
Congratulations to our colleague Dr Marta Lasek-Markey, who was awarded the Brian Bercusson Award from the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) for her PhD research completed in the Law School under Prof Mark Bell's supervision and funded by the Irish Research Council. This research is a sociolegal inquiry into the relationship between the evolving EU framework on the posting of workers and the posted workers' lived experience of precarity. This project has also been recently turned into a book: Law, Precarious Labour and Posted Workers, published by Routledge earlier this month.
The award was instituted to honor Professor Brian Bercusson (1947-2008) who was a leading European labour law academic and a true defender of European trade union and workers' rights. It is awarded every four years to outstanding PhD research in EU labour law. It was presented at the ETUC congress which is taking place in Berlin to celebrate the Confederation's 50th anniversary.
Marta is a currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the Law School working on the CORALE Study: Conscientious Objection: Abortion, Law & Ethics.
