About the Conference

This conference, organised by the School of Law, Trinity College Dublin will provide practitioners, academics, researchers and others with an interest in the criminal justice system with a review of recent important developments in criminal law and criminal procedure. The emphasis will be on giving participants a practical update on current themes and emerging trends based on analysis of recent cases, legislation and proposals for reform.  

A panel of expert speakers will address relevant subjects including developments in substantive criminal law, draft legislation on DNA evidence, accommodating victims within the criminal justice system, sentencing, and procedural developments. 

There will be plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

Speakers and Chair

Professor Ivana Bacik is Reid Professor of Criminal Law, Criminology and Penology at Trinity College Dublin and since 2007 has been a Senator for Dublin University.

Professor Hilary Biehler is Head of School at Trinity College Dublin where she lectures in Equity and Administrative Law.

Dr Yvonne Daly in Criminal Law and the Law of Evidence at Dublin City University.

Dr. Liz Heffernan is an Associate Professor and a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin.  She lectures in Evidence and international Criminal Evidence.

Professor Shane Kilcommins lectures in evidence law, jurisprudence, penology and employment law at Univerity College Cork.

Mr. David O’Dwyer, Senior Consultant, Regulatory Advisory Services at Grant Thornton

Tom O’Malley is a barrister and a Senior Lecturer in Law at NUI, Galway where he teaches Administrative Law, Evidence, Sentencing Law, and Criminal Procedure.

Dr David Prendergas is a lecturer in Criminal law and Theoretical and Comparative Criminal Law and Legal Philosophy at Trinity College Dublin.<>
