Dr Théophile Munyangeyo

Dr Théophile Munyangeyo joined the School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies at Trinity College Dublin in July 2021 as Assistant Professor in Francophone African Studies and Deputy Director of the Centre for Global Intercultural Communications. Prior to joining TCD, he worked as Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer and Reader in French and Francophone Studies, Teaching and Learning at Leeds Beckett University, United Kingdom.

Dr Munyangeyo has extensive teaching experience of French, Francophone and communication studies. This includes the overview of French literature: from the Middle Ages to the present time, French literature (17th -20th centuries), Modern France: politics and society, France and the world, France and its colonies, African francophone literature; Postcolonial francophone literature, French grammar, French linguistics, translation and interpreting both ways (French-English), Communication theories and models, Communication approaches, Intercultural communication, Semantics and pragmatics, Language and the world of work, Working with languages, Research methods, Teaching French as a second language (teacher training course), European studies (history, institutions, policies and treaties).

Dr Munyangeyo is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (FCIL) and Senior Fellow of the United Kingdom’s Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). He is a member of various editorial boards for international academic journals, and has examined and supervised PhD research in applied linguistics, translation, discourse analysis, pedagogic and professional developments, including Professional Doctorate in Education.

From communication and Francophone studies to pedagogic developments, Dr Munyangeyo has extended his research interests into self-directed learning, experiential learning, learner engagement, active blended-learning, flipped learning, competency-based learning, inclusive learning and curriculum developments. He brings international experience from four previous universities in coaching, mentoring and leadership. He has led research and academic teams as Director of Research, Academic Lead and Head of departments.
