Microsoft 365 Groups (or Teams) are used to set up collaborative workspaces in Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Yammer, and Planner. A Microsoft 365 Group that is frequently used can be great for collaboration, however, if it becomes inactive it may lead to some unintentional consequences such as unmanaged Groups or Teams sites and possibly unmonitored data.
This is why IT Services will enable a Microsoft setting that will expire and ultimately delete inactive Microsoft 365 Groups and Teams. Groups are identified as inactive after 426 days of no interactions and will expire after 456 days of inactivity, unless renewed.

The expiration setting will be enabled on Tuesday 14th February 2023. Owners of inactive Groups will then start to receive automated email notifications from Microsoft 30 days, 15 days, and one day before the expiry date, with the option to renew the Group.
