A recently discovered security vulnerability has been announced and critical security updates are available for a range of apps, most notably web browsers such as Chrome, Firefox and Edge. Apple have not yet made available a patch for Safari.
The updates will automatically install in most cases but it is worth checking for and installing the update if it is not already installed:
- Chrome: Launch Chrome and from the menu (three vertical dots) choose Help – About Google Chrome, and then install any pending updates.
- Firefox: Launch Firefox and from the menu (three horizontal lines) choose Help – About Firefox, and then install any pending updates.
- Edge: Launch Edge and from the menu (three dots) choose Help and Feedback – About Microsoft Edge, and then install any pending udpates.
- Safari: There is no security update from Apple as yet. Note: If you do run Software Update in macOS, it is strongly recommended not to install macOS Sonoma as we have not completed testing for this and we are aware of some compatibility issues with certain apps.
Our general advice would be to check for any available security updates for apps that you use. For any technical staff aware of apps in use in their area with a dependency on libvpx, it is strongly recommended to check the provider’s website to see if a security update is available.
