We would like to inform you of the upcoming Blackboard module maintenance work being performed by IT Services in the 2024/2025 Michaelmas term.

What maintenance work is happening?

As part of IT Services annual Blackboard modules management practice, we will be removing access to all modules for the years 2018-19 (year 7) and 2019-20 (year 6) in two stages.

  • From 29th August 2024, students will no longer be able to access modules on Blackboard for the years 2018-19 and 2019-20.
  • From 21st October 2024, IT Services will begin to delete modules on Blackboard for the years 2018-19 and 2019-20.

An archival backup of these modules will be taken by IT Services and stored in a local offline storage area.

What do the owners of the modules need to do?

If you an owner of a targeted module and believe you will need content in a 2018-19 or 2019-20 module for teaching, you should copy that content to a more recent year module before the deletion date as listed above. An instructional guide on how to copy modules is available on our Blackboard Staff “Copying Modules” webpage.

Should you wish to back up the content to your own local storage, before it is deleted, you can use the Blackboard Export\Archive Module feature. More details about using this feature are available on the Blackboard “Export and Archive Courses” webpage.

If you believe you have a strong case as to why a module should remain in its current location and not be transferred to a more recent module year or your local storage, then please email the IT Service Desk, in advance of the deletion date, with details of your request.

What do students need to do?

If you are a student and feel you will need access to content that is marked for deletion, please speak with your instructor about your concerns.
