You may have computers in your area that are rarely used or set aside for occasional tasks—these are what we refer to as inactive computers. While they may not be in regular use, it’s important to keep these devices up-to-date to prevent potential security risks and make sure they are ready for use when required

What You Need to Do

To ensure inactive computers remain secure: connect each inactive device to the College network or staff VPN for several hours a couple times a month.

This will allow the computer to receive important security updates for the operating system, as well as installed applications such as Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge).

Why This Matters

Inactive computers, if not updated regularly, become vulnerable to security threats. By keeping them updated, you help ensure these devices are ready to be used when needed as well as help keep both them and our IT systems secure.

Additionally, connecting your devices to the network is essential for
their enrolment in Microsoft Intune and Defender
