Windows - Manual data backup
Find out how big is your user profile.
- On the keyboard, press Windows Key + E to open Windows Explorer.
- Open drive C or the drive where your Operating System is installed.
- Open Users folder
- Right-click on the folder with your College username, then select Properties.
- Note the size of your Users Folder containing your files and data. The size is given in GB (Gigabytes). You will need to make sure that you have enough space available on your external drive or NAS network shared folder
Copy user profile data to the backup location
- On the keyboard, press Windows Key + E to open Windows Explorer.
- Open your User Folder by choosing Computer - Local Disk (C:) - Users - username
- All your personal folders will be displayed.
- Select the items you wish to back up, then right-click and select Copy.
- Open a new Window Explorer window by pressing Windows Key + E again.
- Open the destination folder: for example, your external hard drive or NAS shared network folder.
- Right-click inside the destination folder and select Paste.
- Windows will copy the selected folders to the backup location. Depending on the size of your files, this may take several minutes to complete.
