Supported versions of macOS

In Trinity offices and labs and on the Staff Wi-Fi service

IT Services currently provides support for computers running the following versions of macOS on the Trinity data network in offices and labs, and on the Staff Wi-Fi service:

  • macOS Sonoma (14.x)
  • macOS Ventura (13.x)
  • macOS Monterey (12.x) *

* As both Apple and Microsoft have withdrawn support for macOS Monterey, IT Services are no longer accepting new network connection requests for this version of macOS.

On the Student Wi-Fi service

IT Services currently provides support for computers running the following versions of macOS on the Student Wi-Fi service in Trinity residences and on campus:

  • macOS Sonoma (14.x)
  • macOS Ventura (13.x)
  • macOS Monterey (12.x)

Support for macOS Sequoia (15.0) in Trinity offices and labs and on the Staff and Student Wi-Fi service

macOS Sequoia (macOS 15.0) was released on 16th September 2024. IT Services are carrying out testing of macOS Sequoia for network connectivity and compatibility with our central IT services. Until this testing is complete, which may take several weeks, we will not be able to provide support for this version of macOS in Trinity offices and labs and on the Staff and Student Wi-Fi service. We would recommend not upgrading to macOS Sonoma until our testing is completed successfully.

Apple and other providers like Microsoft will withdraw support for macOS Monterey (12.x) alongside the release of macOS Sequoia. IT Services will formally end support for macOS Monterey (12.x) once we have adopted support for macOS Sequioa.

Older versions of macOS

Apple has ended support for macOS Big Sur and earlier versions of macOS. This means that they no longer provide software security updates for these operating systems and continuing to run these unsupported operating systems represents a security risk to the Trinity data network and to your own data. If your computer is running an earlier version of macOS, then we encourage you to take action to ensure you continue to receive full support from us by upgrading your operating system. Information on how to upgrade, for free, to a more recent version of macOS can be found on the Apple website at www.apple.com/macos/how-to-upgrade.
