Thursday 19th September 2024

In-Person: 5th Floor Russell Building, Tallaght Cross

William R. Phillips, MD, MPH, FAAFP

Bill Phillips is a family doctor in Seattle, USA, where he practiced full-time full-spectrum care for 20 years. He was Endowed Professor in Family Medicine and Clinical Professor of Epidemiology and Health Systems at the University of Washington. He earned his MD and MPH from UW and completed training in family medicine and preventive medicine. Bill was a pioneer in interdisciplinary practice, inter-professional training, and partnering with patients. His broad interests include preventive medicine, clinician education, research, patient-doctor communication, suffering, caring, and healing. Dr. Phillips is the past President of the North American Primary Care Research Group and Chair of Science and Public Health at the American Academy of Family Physicians. He helped found and edited the Annals of Family Medicine. Bill has brought practice experience and primary care perspective to healthcare policy at the highest levels, including on the US Preventive Services Task Force, Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and NIH National Library of Medicine. As a generalist clinician-scholar-leader, Bill hopes to connect the realities of community practice, the joys of comprehensive care, and the importance of primary care research, all to empower clinicians and the patients and communities they serve.
